He also said that the two have been in touch with each other about it. ‘Want to learn technique of a swing from Virat Kohli’ Speaking to JioHotsar, in an interview at Wimbledon 2026, Djokovic called Kohli a ‘global star’ and expressed his respect and admiration for the cricket icon. “I would love to play some cricket and tennis with Virat Kohli. I am planning to visit India in the near future and we have been communicating about it. I know Virat is a global star, but especially in India, he is incredible,” the 24-time Grand Slam winner said. “I would love for him to be my host and show me around. I have a lot of respect for him and for Indian cricket. Cricket is not big in my country (Serbia). But some of the people in my team are British and they love cricket. I have been learning a lot about the game in the last 10-15 years,” Djokovic added. The 39-year-old added that he would want to learn a bit of swinging technique from Kohli when they interact. “I still have to work on my skills, so maybe Virat can help me out to work on that technique of a swing. I have tons and respect and admiration for him,” he said. Virat Kohli responds with Instagram story After Djokovic’s comments on Kohli, the Indian cricket star took to Instagram to issue a response. He reshared Wimbledon’s post on his story, which quoted him on his interaction and respect for Djokovic. Kohli had paid a visit to last year’s Wimbledon and had rooted for Djokovic to win the men’s singles title. “I’ve been in touch with Novak for a while now. We have exchanged some messages and he’s been very gracious and kind to stay in touch. In the conversation of being the greatest of all time, probably right up there with everyone else if not the number one,” Kohli had said. In 2024, Djokovic revealed that he and Kohli texted each other for years but never got the chance to meet in person. Later on, Kohli shared that he got in touch with Djokovic ‘organically’ on Instagram. “I was looking at this profile once and happened to press the message button to say hello. And then I saw a message from him on my DM already,” Kohli said in an interview in 2024, while sharing that he also checked if the account was real or false.
