Former Indian cricketer Sourav Ganguly is set to be inducted in ICC’s Hall of Fame. The Indian cricket legend is set to join a list of legends that include his former teammates in Sachin Tendulkar, MS Dhoni, Rahul Dravid and Virender Sehwag, among others. Ganguly thus will become the 12th Indian cricketer to be part of ICC’s Hall of Fame. The former captain, who also served as the president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), is celebrating his 54th birthday today. Ganguly’s Hall of Fame announcement likely on 11 July According to reports, the official announcement of Ganguly being inducted into the Hall of Fame is expected to be made on 11 July. The ICC Hall of Fame honours cricketers who have influenced the game in their own way, inspiring generations. BCCI honours Sourav Ganguly on his birthday The BCCI shared a birthday post for Ganguly on X, honouring his contribution to Indian cricket. A veteran of 424 matches across formats, Ganguly scored 18,575 runs and had 38 centuries to his name. Ganguly earned the nickname ‘God of Off Side.’ One of the best captains and opening batters, Ganguly inspired a generation to play bold and fearless cricket, even in overseas conditions. As a batter, he was known for his impeccable off-side play, his wonderful cover drives and his ability to find the gaps on the off-side. Under Ganguly’s captaincy, the Indian team witnessed a transformation and not only challenged top cricketing nations but also won overseas. India jointly won the Champions Trophy alongside Sri Lanka with Ganguly as captain in 2002. One of the most iconic moments of Ganguly’s career, both as captain, saw India beat England in the final of the NatWest Trophy at Lord’s. Ganguly took off his shirt at the Lord’s balcony and waved it after the win, a picture that still remains fresh in Indian cricket history. Ganguly was also responsible for backing players like Yuvraj Singh, Harbhajan Singh, Zaheer Khan and even MS Dhoni, paving the way for them to be future match-winners. All of them went on to win the ODI World Cup in 2011, ending India’s 28-year-wait for the trophy. The movie, titled ‘Dada: The Sourav Ganguly Story’ will have Rajkummar Rao play the role of the cricket icon. The movie is set to hit the screens on 14 May, 2027. Taking to social media, Ganguly shared a poster of the movie and wrote, “The Best Gift Ever!
