A strong weather system has become active across Madhya Pradesh due to the influence of two troughs and a cyclonic circulation. The system is expected to impact the state for the next 72 hours, bringing thunderstorms, rain, and hail in several districts. Widespread impact across state On Wednesday, around 10 districts in southern and northern parts of the state witnessed cloudy skies and intermittent rain. Balaghat recorded nearly one inch of rainfall. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an alert for Thursday, predicting thunderstorms and rain in 33 districts, including Bhopal, Indore, and Gwalior, while hailstorms are likely in three districts. Strong winds and peak impact days Wind speeds of 30–50 km/h are expected across different regions over the next three days. The system is likely to cover the entire state, with the most significant impact anticipated on March 19 and 20. Weather conditions are expected to clear by March 22. A drop in maximum temperatures has already been recorded in several districts, bringing a temporary coolness to the atmosphere. First hailstorm of March expected This will be the first instance of hailstorms in the state during March this year. The weather department has forecast hail along with rain and thunderstorms in Seoni, Mandla, and Balaghat over the next two days. Other districts are expected to receive light to heavy rainfall. Unusual weather pattern this season February saw four rounds of changing weather patterns, including hailstorms, rain, and strong winds, which caused significant damage to crops. The government had conducted surveys to assess the losses. After a hot start to March, with rising temperatures in the first fortnight, the weather is now shifting again due to this strong system, which is expected to persist for at least three days. Heatwave expected in April–May Meteorologists predict that heatwave conditions will prevail in April and May, lasting for 15–20 days. Signs of rising heat are expected to reappear from the last week of March. Earlier this month, Narmadapuram experienced intense heatwave conditions for three consecutive days. March shows mixed weather trends Historical data from the past decade indicates that March in Madhya Pradesh typically sees a mix of cool nights, hot days, and occasional rainfall—and this year is no exception. Cities like Bhopal, Indore, and Ujjain may see daytime temperatures crossing 40°C, while nighttime temperatures could range between 14°C and 20°C.
