Former BJP MLA from Sidhi, Kedarnath Shukla, has alleged that the controversial Sidhi urination case was the result of a conspiracy, claiming that those behind it are now sitting BJP legislators—a Member of Parliament and an MLA. Though Shukla did not name them directly, his remarks were widely understood to be aimed at Sidhi MP Dr Rajesh Mishra and MLA Riti Pathak. Shukla made these statements while speaking to Dainik Bhaskar during the special session of the Madhya Pradesh Assembly in Bhopal. His remarks came amid visible disappointment over being denied a party ticket in the 2024 Assembly elections. “It was a conspiracy, and the conspirators are in power today” Responding to a question on whether his ticket was cut due to the Sidhi urination case, Shukla said, “It was a conspiracy, and today the conspirators are MPs and MLAs. The state and national leadership are also aware of this. But now, the incident has already happened.” When asked whether he had raised the issue within the party organisation, Shukla said the matter is known internally and discussions have taken place, but it requires a policy-level decision. On his political future, he added, “If I get an opportunity, I am ready to work in the organisation or contest elections from Sidhi again.” When pressed to name those who allegedly conspired against him, Shukla reiterated, They are the MP and the MLA from Sidhi. Their names are clear. Question: Did you not discuss this with the party organization? MP Rajesh Mishra responds: “He should provide proof” Reacting to the allegations, Sidhi BJP MP Dr. Rajesh Mishra told Dainik Bhaskar over the phone, “If he has said this, he should provide proof. I do not want to say anything on this matter. Why is he raising these issues after so many days? Only he can provide evidence.” What was the Sidhi urination case? On July 4, 2023, a video surfaced from Sidhi district showing a man allegedly urinating on a tribal youth while hurling abusive and derogatory remarks. The video went viral on social media and triggered massive outrage across the state and nation. The incident came to be known as the “Sidhi urination case.” The accused was identified as Pravesh Shukla. Police action and legal proceedings Following the video’s circulation, Sidhi police registered a case against Pravesh Shukla under various sections of the IPC, along with provisions of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. He was arrested, and authorities also initiated action under the National Security Act (NSA) due to the seriousness of the offence. Then CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s gesture After the incident sparked widespread anger, then-Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan invited the victim to the CM House in Bhopal and publicly washed his feet—a symbolic gesture aimed at expressing remorse and solidarity. The state government also announced Rs 6.5 lakh in financial assistance for the victim. Controversy over ‘MLA representative’ claim In the initial days following the incident, opposition parties claimed that the accused Pravesh Shukla was a representative of then-BJP MLA Kedarnath Shukla. Pravesh’s father, Ramakant Shukla, also stated that his son had served as an MLA representative, alleging that this was why the opposition targeted the family. Kedarnath Shukla strongly denied these claims, stating that Pravesh was neither his representative nor a BJP worker. He acknowledged knowing him only because both belonged to the Sidhi region. Several photographs and social media posts showing Pravesh Shukla alongside the former MLA had gone viral. Shukla clarified that appearing together in photographs does not automatically establish an official association. Political fallout continues The Sidhi urination case had a major political impact in the run-up to the 2023 Assembly elections, with Kedarnath Shukla eventually being denied a ticket. His fresh allegations have now reopened political debate in the region, placing renewed focus on internal BJP dynamics and accountability surrounding one of Madhya Pradesh’s most controversial incidents.
