Tension gripped Madhya Pradesh’s capital Bhopal on Monday when a couple attempted self-immolation outside the Chief Minister’s residence. The gruesome act was carried out by a man and his wife who had arrived from Guna district, to narrate their tale of woes to MP CM Mohan Yadav. The alert police officers and security personnel deployed at the spot intervened swiftly, preventing a major tragedy. Following the incident, the couple’s complaints were heard by the authorities. Couple poured kerosene in protest Eyewitnesses confirmed that the couple suddenly doused themselves with kerosene and tried to set themselves on fire. The incident occurred while they were waiting to present their plea to the Chief Minister. Security staff rushed to stop them, managing to extinguish the attempt before it could escalate. Both individuals were later moved to safety and questioned regarding their protest. Shyamala Hills police station in-charge BK Sandhu told Bhaskar English that the man who tried taking the extreme step has been identified as Devki Nandan Sen, a resident of Guna. The in-charge, however, refused to reveal his wife’s name. Allegations levelled against Guna police According to the police, the couple levelled serious allegations against the Guna Police. They claimed that a shop-related dispute had led them to approach the authorities, but their application was ignored by officials at Guna Kotwali police station. The couple further alleged that instead of taking action, the police falsely implicated them in another case. Frustrated with the lack of justice, they travelled to Bhopal to seek the Chief Minister’s intervention. Police probe on The police have assured a thorough investigation into the Guna couple’s allegations. Senior officers are reviewing the complaint and have stated that appropriate action will be taken if lapses are found.
