Authorities have invoked the National Security Act (NSA) against Ayub, a man accused of desecrating graves and committing sexual acts with corpses at Bada Cemetery in Khandwa. Collector Rishabh Gupta confirmed the action on Thursday, ordering that Ayub be held in a Category-C cell in the district jail. Mob attempts to attack accused When the accused was brought by police to the cemetery for a spot inspection and reconstruction of the crime scene, a large crowd had already gathered, having learned of his arrival. Locals surrounded him, demanding that police hand him over so they could exact vigilante justice. The police had to struggle significantly to escort Ayub safely back to the station on a motorcycle. Authorities admitted lapses in crowd management and security. Despite intelligence indicating thousands of people might gather at the cemetery, only two to three police personnel accompanied Ayub. Accused had history of heinous crimes Ayub, son of Ismail Ali from Mundwara village, has a criminal record involving the murders of his two wives and approximately 13 other cases. Investigations revealed that he had visited the cemetery on three separate occasions, digging graves and engaging in sexual acts with the corpses. Disturbing rituals for alleged occult powers The accused reportedly performed these acts to gain physical and spiritual powers. He would also cut hair and nails from the corpses and take them with him. Victims were primarily freshly buried women. Authorities are investigating further, and the accused remains in custody under strict surveillance while the NSA proceedings continue.
