The false ceiling of the Special Newborn Care Unit (SNCU) ward at the district hospital in Bhind collapsed on Sunday afternoon, injuring three women and a newborn baby. At the time of the incident, mothers were breastfeeding their babies inside the ward. According to eyewitnesses, a loud noise was heard before a portion of the ceiling suddenly came crashing down. Debris fell near the beds, creating panic among the women present in the ward. Mothers rushed to save their children, leading to chaos inside the unit. Hospital staff immediately reached the spot and evacuated the injured women and infant to the trauma centre for treatment. Other newborns shifted to safe ward Doctors said all the injured were given primary treatment and are now out of danger. As a precaution, all other newborn babies admitted to the ward were shifted to another safe location soon after the incident. The accident created panic and confusion in the hospital premises for some time. Relatives allege negligence by hospital administration Following the incident, relatives of patients accused the hospital administration of negligence. They alleged that patients and newborns were being kept in an old and unsafe building despite its poor condition. According to local reports, the district hospital building is old and dilapidated. Similar incidents of plaster falling from the ceiling have reportedly occurred earlier as well, but no major repair work was carried out. Hospital authorities said the matter will be investigated and the damaged portion of the ward will be repaired.
