A 40-year-old devotee died on Saturday evening while waiting in a long queue for darshan at the Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga Temple in Madhya Pradesh. The deceased was identified as Bubul, a resident of Odisha. He reportedly fell ill after standing in the queue for a long time, during which his blood pressure suddenly increased and he fainted. He was rushed to hospital but died on the way. Bubul worked in a private company and had come to Madhya Pradesh with his friends on a pilgrimage. He first visited Ujjain for darshan at the Mahakal temple and later reached Omkareshwar. At the time of the incident, he was standing in the darshan queue from JP Chowk towards the temple. According to officials, he felt dizzy on the zig-zag path made for crowd management near the Narmada river, outside the temple premises. His friends took him to a clinic inside the temple complex, from where he was referred to the Civil Hospital due to his critical condition. Friends Refused Post-mortem
According to the Block Medical Officer, Bubul was brought to the hospital in a deceased state. Doctors prepared for a post-mortem by placing the body in the mortuary, but the deceased’s friends gave written consent to not conduct a post-mortem. Meanwhile, on Sunday, due to Narmada Jayanti and the weekend, a huge crowd was seen in Omkareshwar. By 12 PM, approximately one lakh devotees had arrived for darshan. In the morning, there was a traffic jam up to Kothi village, which extended to Mortakka by afternoon. Due to the jam, Rao Pushpendra Singh, the managing trustee of Omkareshwar Temple Trust, also got stuck on the way and could not reach the temple until afternoon.
