On Sunday afternoon in Parsouhar village of Singrauli district, while extracting ‘Chhui’ (a type of clay used for plastering), the soil suddenly collapsed. Three people died on the spot, while two women were seriously injured. Among the deceased are two girls. After the accident, a pall of gloom has descended over the entire village. According to Jiawan police station, the incident occurred around 1:21 PM. Women and girls from the village had gone to extract ‘Chhui’ with trowels. During this, a large section of soil suddenly collapsed, trapping five people present there under the soil. The incident happened so suddenly that no one had a chance to react. Hearing the screams, nearby villagers reached the spot and immediately started rescue operations. The Sarpanch and the police were informed about the incident. Upon receiving the information, Kundwar police outpost and Jiawan police station personnel reached the spot. After informing senior officials, a JCB machine was called. With the help of police and villagers, after much effort, the people buried in the soil were pulled out. During the rescue, two women were found unconscious and were immediately sent to the hospital by ambulance. Meanwhile, two girls and one woman had already died. Among the deceased are 10-year-old Preeti Singh, 16-year-old Basanti (both residents of village Harhawa), and 50-year-old Phoolmati Yadav, a resident of Bandha. The injured women include Kaushalya Singh (50), a resident of village Parsouhar, and Sakmuni Singh (45), a resident of Chandreh. Their treatment is ongoing at the hospital. The police have prepared the inquest report for the bodies and initiated post-mortem procedures.
