Bhopal’s Teela Jamalpura Police on Friday busted an illegal LPG gas refilling racket operating in the Old Sindhi Colony area, the police said. As per police, they acted on a tip-off received on October 11, 2025, and raided the site where two men were allegedly refilling vehicle gas directly from domestic LPG cylinders, posing a serious safety hazard. One suspect manages to flee, another apprehended Teela Jamalpura police station in-charge DP Singh said that during the operation, one of the suspects, identified as Nazim Khan, a resident of Vasundhara Colony near Hari Mazar, fled the spot upon seeing the police. The second accused, Manoj Puri (35), a resident of Old Sindhi Colony, was apprehended on-site. Police recovered a white car (MP09 HD 7351), an Indane domestic LPG cylinder, and a gas refilling apparatus, all valued at Rs 85,000. Case registered under Essential Commodities Act The police have registered a case under Sections 3 and 7 of the Essential Commodities Act at Teela Jamalpura Police Station. The seized materials were taken into custody, and legal proceedings have been initiated against both suspects. The police said that the refilling setup was being managed by Nazim Khan, who supplied the equipment and oversaw the illegal operation. Manoj was caught using the apparatus to refill gas into his car. The key accused Nazim, as learnt by the police, is a habitual offender with multiple criminal cases registered at Teela Jamalpura Police Station, including assault, public endangerment, and repeated violations of the Essential Commodities Act. The police confirmed that he had earlier been bound over by the court of the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Shahjehanabad, but continued his illegal activities. Police intensify manhunt for absconding accused Teela Jamalpura Police have launched a manhunt to trace Nazim Khan, who remains absconding. His previous offences also indicate his persistent involvement in illicit gas trading and other crimes.
