A heart-wrenching incident has come to light from Gwalior. Here a farmer, allegedly driven to despair by constant threats from moneylenders died by suicide after jumping in front of a moving train and his body was severed into two. The deceased, identified as Tilak Singh Rana of Tyagi Nagar in Murar, left behind a suicide note naming three people, including his brother-in-law and his brother-in-law’s brother, as responsible for his death. His family alleged the accused repeatedly threatened to enter their home and assault him despite receiving repayments. Family alleges interest demand rose from 3% to 20% According to the family, Tilak Singh had borrowed ₹5 lakh from Kalla Sharma around six months ago and had already repaid ₹3 lakh. However, they claim he was relentlessly pressured to pay the remaining ₹2 lakh along with exorbitant interest. While the loan was initially agreed at a 3% interest rate, the family alleged the lenders later began demanding interest at 20%, escalating the harassment. Repeated assault and threats pushed farmer to take the extreme step The family alleged that Tilak Singh was repeatedly assaulted and threatened with death after failing to repay the outstanding amount. They claimed the accused even entered their house and warned that they would kill him. According to the family, he was threatened again on Thursday (9 July). Unable to cope with the alleged harassment and mounting mental pressure, Tilak reportedly went to the railway tracks near the AG Office bridge on Friday (10 July) and jumped in front of an oncoming train. Suicide note names three accused, cites harassment over loan repayment Police recovered a suicide note from Tilak Singh in which he stated that he had borrowed ₹5 lakh and had already repaid ₹3 lakh. Despite the repayments, he alleged he was being relentlessly harassed over the outstanding amount and mounting interest. The note said he was ending his life after being unable to bear the repeated threats and held three people namely Jitendra Sharma, his brother-in-law Kalla Sharma, and Gajendra responsible for his death. Son alleges 20% interest demand and repeated assault Tilak’s son, Ajit Singh, alleged, “My father was under constant pressure from the accused despite repaying ₹3 lakh. They demanded 20% interest on the remaining amount and assaulted and threatened my father whenever he objected.” According to Ajit, “The relentless harassment left my father mentally shattered, ultimately driving him to take the extreme step.” ‘Will investigate every aspect’ – Police SSP Dharmvir Singh said, “A suicide note has been found from the spot. The role of the people whose names are written in it is being investigated. The suicide note will also be examined. Legal action will be taken based on the facts that emerge in the investigation.”
