The Meghalaya government has approached the Supreme Court seeking the cancellation of bail granted to Sonam Raghuvanshi, the prime accused in the high-profile murder of an Indore-based businessman and her husband, Raja Raghuvanshi. Raja’s brother, Vipin Raghuvanshi, confirmed the development and said the matter is likely to be heard on Friday. Sonam accused of plotting husband’s murder during honeymoon According to the investigation, Indore transport businessman Raja Raghuvanshi was allegedly murdered by his wife, Sonam Raghuvanshi and her lover and his associates, during their honeymoon trip to Shillong. Police alleged that Sonam conspired with her associates to kill her husband. Shillong Police arrested all the accused in the case. While Sonam and some of the accused are currently out on bail, others remain in judicial custody. Family opposes bail Raja Raghuvanshi’s family has strongly opposed Sonam’s release on bail and has been demanding strict punishment for all those involved in the murder. Earlier, the Meghalaya Police had moved the High Court seeking cancellation of Sonam’s bail. However, the court did not revoke the relief granted to her. Following that setback, the Meghalaya government has now approached the Supreme Court to challenge the bail order. Vipin Raghuvanshi confirms Supreme Court plea Confirming the latest development, Raja’s brother Vipin Raghuvanshi said the Meghalaya government has filed a petition in the Supreme Court seeking cancellation of Sonam’s bail. He added that the matter is expected to come up for hearing on Friday. Vipin also said the Meghalaya government does not want an accused like Sonam to remain out on bail for a prolonged period, which is why it has approached the apex court.
