A dispute between a young man and woman in Jabalpur escalated into a violent clash between their families after the woman allegedly refused to marry him. The situation spiralled out of control, leading to a fierce confrontation in which vehicles parked along the roadside were set ablaze. Police rushed to the spot and, with the help of the fire brigade, brought the fire under control. Cases have been registered against both sides on charges including rioting, and an investigation is underway. The incident took place in Majholi, around 48 km from Jabalpur. According to officials, the young man and woman had been in a relationship for several months. A few days ago, the woman reportedly declined to marry him, following which tensions between the two began to rise. As the dispute reached their families, members of both sides held discussions in an attempt to resolve the matter. However, no agreement could be reached, and relations between the Saraf and Tiwari families deteriorated further. See two pictures Vehicles torched during clash On Friday night, the two families again came face-to-face, resulting in a heated confrontation. Both sides allegedly engaged in physical violence, using sticks and other objects during the clash. The situation intensified when several two-wheelers parked by the roadside were set on fire. After receiving information, Majholi police station in-charge Nehru Khandate reached the spot with a police team and managed to restore order. Firefighters were also called in to extinguish the blaze. Counter FIRs registered against both sides Jabalpur SP Sampat Upadhyay said the boy and girl were friends, but the girl’s marriage was later arranged elsewhere. Following this, the boy allegedly sent some messages on his mobile phone, which angered the girl’s family. The dispute eventually escalated into a violent clash between the two families. Police have registered counter FIRs and booked around 16 people. Further investigation is in progress.
