Pre-monsoon municipal council meeting, key concerns ignored:Congress set to corner civic body over roads and drains; stormy scenes expected

A special meeting of the Bhopal Municipal Corporation Council will be held on Tuesday. It has only one agenda item – solid waste and management, whereas the opposition, i.e., Congress councilors, want to discuss waterlogged areas before monsoon, the dilapidated condition of roads, and water supply. In such a situation, there are chances of a ruckus in the meeting. For the first time, Shabista Zaki will not attend this council meeting as the Leader of the Opposition. Due to being out of the city in Mumbai for family reasons, she has expressed her inability to attend the meeting. Considering this situation, the Leader of the Opposition had written an official letter to the Municipal Corporation President, seeking permission to appoint Ward-16 Councilor Mohd. Sarwar as her representative for the meeting. In Zaki’s absence, Councilor Mohd. Sarwar will play the main role of the Leader of the Opposition during the council meeting. In the meeting, he will raise issues related to monsoon. It is important to discuss issues related to the general public
Councilor Mohd. Sarwar stated that there is only one agenda in the special meeting. This should definitely be discussed, but all those pre-monsoon topics which are in the interest of the general public should also be discussed. Therefore, a special meeting was organized
The Urban Administration and Development Department has launched a special campaign for the effective implementation of Solid Waste Management Rules 2016, on the occasion of World Environment Day. The department had asked all local bodies to hold a meeting on June 5, but Bhopal Corporation is holding this special meeting on June 9.
