A shocking hit-and-run incident was caught on CCTV in Khargone district on Thursday afternoon, where a van allegedly ran over a young man on the Indore–Ichhapur National Highway and then reversed to run over him a second time before fleeing the scene. According to Barwah police, the victim has been identified as 25-year-old Chandan, a resident of Ujjain. He sustained serious injuries in the incident, which occurred near a petrol pump in Kurawad village. He is currently undergoing treatment at Khargone District Hospital, where his condition remains critical. Three friends were travelling to Omkareshwar One of Chandan’s companions, Anurag Rathore, said that he, Chandan and another friend were travelling from Ujjain to Omkareshwar for pilgrimage. The three were travelling in separate vehicles with passengers. Chandan was driving ahead in his Swift Dzire, while Anurag and the third friend were following behind. Van driver allegedly driving recklessly According to Anurag, an Eco van (registration number MP09WK1381) approached their vehicles near the Gwalu area during the journey. He alleged that the van driver was driving recklessly and dangerously, repeatedly attempting to cut across their vehicles and force them off course, creating a hazardous situation for everyone on the road. Friends alerted Chandan As the driver’s behaviour became increasingly aggressive, Anurag called Chandan and informed him about the situation. He told Chandan that the van driver was repeatedly cutting across vehicles and provoking a confrontation. Chandan then decided to stop and speak to the driver in an attempt to resolve the matter. See these 3 pictures Victim stopped near petrol pump A few kilometres ahead of Balwada, Chandan stopped his car near a petrol pump in Kurawad village and stepped out of the vehicle. He reportedly stood by the roadside and attempted to signal the Eco van to stop. Witnesses said the van initially appeared to slow down as if the driver intended to stop and talk. However, moments later, the driver allegedly accelerated suddenly and struck Chandan. Driver reversed and ran over victim again The impact threw Chandan onto the road, leaving him seriously injured. According to witnesses and CCTV footage, the driver then moved the vehicle forward for a short distance before reversing and driving over the injured man a second time. The accused then sped away toward Barwah. Serious injuries to abdomen and legs Immediately after the incident, Chandan’s friends and local residents rushed him to the government hospital in Balwada. Doctors said he suffered severe injuries to his abdomen and legs. After receiving initial treatment, he was referred to Khargone District Hospital due to the critical nature of his condition. Police investigating the incident Police have begun an investigation and are examining CCTV footage that captured the entire sequence of events. Efforts are underway to identify and apprehend the van driver, who remains absconding. Authorities are also investigating the circumstances that led to the confrontation on the highway.
