Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav reviewed the progress of the Bhopal Metro Project on Thursday. During the meeting, he was presented with detailed updates on the Metro’s Blue and Orange Lines and emphasized the need to prioritize passenger convenience and commuter-friendly facilities. He also sought updates on the progress of the Indore Metro Project. Presentation on Blue and Orange lines Officials briefed the Chief Minister on the ongoing work on the Orange Line and Blue Line corridors in Bhopal. Currently, construction is underway on: The Priority Corridor of the Orange Line, stretching from Subhash Nagar to AIIMS Bhopal, has been operational since December 2025. Following the launch of metro services on the priority stretch, authorities have intensified work on the remaining sections of the project. Underground tunnel work in progress A major focus of the review meeting was the underground section of the metro corridor. On March 30, a Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) was lowered approximately 24 metres below ground level to begin excavation work for the underground route. The tunnelling project involves the construction of a 3.39-kilometre-long underground tunnel. According to metro officials, work on the underground section is expected to be completed within the next two years. Chief Minister Mohan Yadav also discussed the progress of the underground alignment during the review. Construction continues between Subhash Nagar and Karond Work is currently progressing on the Orange Line corridor connecting AIIMS Bhopal and Karond Square. The operational Priority Corridor covers a six-kilometre stretch between Subhash Nagar and AIIMS. Construction is now focused on the second phase of the corridor between Subhash Nagar and Karond, where a portion of the metro line will run underground. Two underground stations planned As part of the underground corridor, two stations are being constructed: Each station will have an approximate length of 180 metres. The tunnel excavated by the TBM will extend for 3.39 kilometres. Beyond Nadra Station, near Bada Bagh, the metro will return to the surface through a 143-metre ramp, allowing trains to transition from the underground section back to an elevated alignment. Focus on expanding urban transit infrastructure The review reflects the state government’s continued focus on expanding urban public transport infrastructure in Bhopal and Indore. Officials said the metro projects are being developed with an emphasis on modern passenger amenities, improved connectivity and efficient urban mobility for residents of both cities.
