Budget airline IndiGo will hike fuel charges from tomorrow citing rising ATF prices. This is likely to make flying more costly as passengers may require to pay more for flight tickets. IndiGo will hike fuel surcharge for both domestic and international flights. The new rates come into effect from 12 am on Tuesday, 6 October, 2026. New Fuel Charges: The Gurugram-headquartered airline has hiked charges in the range of ₹375 to ₹1,300 depending upon distance. Jet fuel prices currently at highest level in 10 years: IndiGo IndiGo said the continuous rise in fuel prices, with the latest month-on-month increase exceeding 14%, has taken ATF costs to levels that are amongst the highest in the last decade. Aviation Turbine Fuel, the fuel used in aeroplanes, had become ₹16 per litre more expensive from 1 October. For domestic airlines, the prices had risen from ₹121 to ₹137 per litre. Given that Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) makes up a significant share of airlines operating costs, this rise is expected to impact airlines cost structures and network economics, including those of IndiGo. -IndiGo Fuel accounts for around 40% of airlines’ operating costs. Other airlines may also raise fares as fuel has become more expensive. This will make air travel costlier during the festive season. Air India hiked fuel surcharge for domestic flights in April: Earlier, Tata Group-owned Air India had hiked fuel surcharge in the wake of rising jet fuel prices due to crude oil supply disruptions triggered by the West Asia conflict. The airline had increased the surcharge by ₹299 to ₹899. In a press release the company had announced the higher fuel surcharge on all its domestic flights, effective from 9 am Wednesday, 8 April 2026.
