A shocking incident was reported from Maharajpur police station area of Chhatarpur district on Saturday, where a 42-year-old man allegedly chopped off his own private parts with an axe in an attempt to become a monk and free himself from worldly life. He was admitted to the district hospital in critical condition, where he is undergoing treatment. According to reports, the man went to a well near a field at around 9 am on Saturday. There, he suddenly attacked himself with an axe. Shortly after the incident, he called his cousin and informed him about what had happened. Family members rushed to the spot and first took him to Maharajpur Hospital before shifting him to the District Hospital in Chhatarpur. He said – “I want to be free from worldly attachments.” In his statement at the hospital, the man said he used to run a Ramleela troupe and had long struggled with lust and anger. He claimed he wanted to eliminate his sexual desires and took the extreme step to end what he described as “worldly temptations”. He said he wanted freedom from family life and material attachments so that he would not commit any sins in the future. He added that he now wishes to devote himself to prayer, spirituality and service to the nation. Wife and four children in the family Family members said the man has a wife and four children — two sons and two daughters. His wife has been paralysed for a long time. The family’s eldest daughter is scheduled to get married on 25 June, and wedding preparations were underway at home. Due to the family’s difficult circumstances, the children had already been adopted by relatives. The younger daughter is being raised by the man’s brother-in-law, while the elder daughter has been adopted by another relative. Family members said he showed no remorse over his actions even after the incident. Brother said – he had a cannabis addiction The injured man’s brother said he had been consuming cannabis for a long time. Relatives believe the addiction may have affected his mental state. According to the family, after the incident he himself approached them and informed them about what he had done. Doctors said – the person’s condition is critical District Hospital surgeon Dr Manoj Chaudhary said the man inflicted severe injuries on himself with a sharp-edged weapon. He had already lost a significant amount of blood by the time he was brought to hospital, and surgery was performed to stop the bleeding. Doctors said the man claimed he had thrown away the severed body part at the scene. His condition remains critical and he continues to receive treatment.
