The series of tiger deaths continues in Kanha Tiger Reserve. The third cub of tigress Amahi (T-141) has also died. On Saturday evening, the carcass of the female cub was found in the Sarhi Zone, which has been sent to Jabalpur for post-mortem. This is the fourth incident related to tigers in the reserve this month. These three cubs belonged to the famous tigress Amahi (T-141) and were about 12 months old. After this incident, questions have arisen about the park’s security and monitoring system. A shocking fact has come to light in the post-mortem report that the stomachs of two cubs were completely empty. This suggests that their deaths were due to hunger. The first cub was found near Amahi Nala on April 21, while the second was found in Intaware Nala on April 24. Due to being in the water, the carcass of the second cub was quite decomposed. Meanwhile, the carcass of the third cub was found on Saturday night. According to Forest Department officials, the post-mortem of the cub’s carcass will be conducted today, Sunday morning. The carcass has been sent to the School of Wildlife Forensic and Health (SWFH) in Jabalpur for detailed examination. There, a detailed investigation into the actual causes of death will be carried out. Two male cubs of the tigress had died earlier Earlier, two male cubs of the Amahi tigress had died on April 21 and April 24. The post-mortem report stated starvation as the cause of their death. The Amahi tigress had a total of four cubs, out of which three have died so far. Cubs were dependent on their mother Experts say that cubs up to one year of age cannot hunt on their own and depend on their mother for food. In such a situation, the question has become big as to why the tigress was not able to hunt. It is being told that the tigress herself has become quite weak, and is now being given separate food (feed) by the management. Tigress weak, concern increased over cub’s condition The condition of the tigress is also reported to be weak, which has increased concern over her and the remaining cub’s condition. Deputy Director (Core) Prakash Kumar Verma stated that to thoroughly investigate the causes of the continuous deaths, the carcass is being sent to SWFH and all prescribed protocols are being followed. Fourth death in a month in Kanha Tiger Reserve It is noteworthy that this is the fourth tiger death in Kanha Tiger Reserve this month. Earlier, on April 5, female tiger T-122 died, and on April 21 and 24, two cubs of T-141 died. On April 24, a tiger carcass was also found in the Baihar forest range of Balaghat district, adjacent to the park, raising questions about wildlife conservation in the entire region. 10 Tiger Deaths in Eight Months The statistics of tiger deaths in Kanha are alarming. In April alone, 4 tigers have died so far. Looking at the record of the last 8 months, 10 tigers and 5 leopards have died in the reserve. Kanha Deputy Director Prakash Kumar Verma says that the remaining one cub and the tigress are being continuously monitored with the help of doctors. Currently, the viscera report is awaited, which will clarify the real cause of death.
