The ongoing war between Iran, Israel and America has started to affect tourists planning to travel. Due to the war, tourists are having to cancel their plans. More than 5,000 people from Madhya Pradesh have cancelled their UAE tours. Currently, the highest number of international bookings is for the Philippines. 55 to 60 per cent of people have converted their international tours into domestic tours. This includes tourists from Indore, Bhopal, Jabalpur, and Gwalior. Domestically, tourists prefer visiting Kaziranga the most, while in terms of MP, Satpura is people’s first choice. This time, due to the war, there has been a nearly 70 percent drop in package bookings. Amol Kataria, the state president of the Travel Agents Federation of India (TAFI), stated that May and June are the months for summer vacations. During this period, tourists start planning two to three months in advance. This time too, tourists from MP had started planning from January. Bookings started from February, but the Iran war changed the entire industry landscape. Due to the war, 5,000 people from MP canceled their UAE tours and got their payments refunded. 25 Crore Travel Loss Expected According to travel agents, the average tour package for the Middle East is 50 to 60 thousand rupees per person. If an average of 50 thousand rupees and an estimate of 5 thousand travelers are taken, then a potential travel business loss of about 25 crore rupees has occurred. However, 55 to 60 percent of tourists have converted their tours to domestic ones. Holiday Packages Directly Postponed Travel agents said that their season starts from the end of April. As soon as school holidays begin, people start travelling. The trend of travel increases in May and June. A large number of people go on trips during the summer season, but this time the season has suffered significant losses. Along with UAE, holiday packages for Oman, Baku, and Europe have been directly cancelled. Considering the war, people are currently not making new bookings for Gulf and European countries either. A decline has also been recorded in hotel occupancy. The biggest crisis is for tourists going to Europe-UAE Hemendra Singh Jadon, President of the Madhya Pradesh-Chhattisgarh Chapter of the Travel Agents Association of India, stated that international tourism bookings in MP have been significantly affected. In domestic tourism this year, the highest bookings are being seen for North India, Uttarakhand, Jammu and Kashmir, Ooty, and Kerala. Packages 15 to 25 percent more expensive Jadaun said that due to the increase in airfare and war-like situations, tour packages have become 15 to 25 per cent more expensive. Meanwhile, other travel agents say that the industry is completely heading towards a slowdown. Jadaun says that if geopolitical tensions continue for the next one month, a further decline in international tourism can be seen. However, the travel sector hopes that as soon as global conditions normalize, travel demand will rapidly return. Meanwhile, a drop of up to 10 to 15 thousand rupees has also been observed in some normal tour packages. New Trend: Philippines in International and Kaziranga in Domestic Amol Kataria, the state president of the Travel Agents Federation of India, said that due to the war in international tours, people are canceling tours to UAE, Baku, Europe, and Tbilisi, while tourists are now booking other destinations. From MP, people are booking tours to the Philippines, Singapore, and Sri Lanka the most this summer vacation. Meanwhile, Kaziranga is being preferred the most in domestic tourism.
