A controversy has erupted in Mehgaon, Bhind district, after officials made the son of a cabinet minister the chief guest at a government event when the minister himself failed to attend. The incident took place during a “Sankalp Se Samadhan” camp held on Monday. Cabinet Minister Rakesh Shukla did not attend the event, following which the administration invited his son, Alok Shukla, to take his place on the stage as chief guest. No official position, yet played chief guest role Alok Shukla does not hold any elected position. Despite this, he distributed scheme-related certificates to beneficiaries at the event. Adding to the controversy, a press release issued by the Public Relations Department referred to him as a “public representative,” drawing sharp criticism from the Congress party. Officials defend decision When questioned, officials defended their action, stating that “anyone can be considered a public representative.” However, this explanation has failed to quell the controversy. Congress alleges political favoritism The Congress has strongly objected, alleging that the administration is facilitating the political “launch” of the minister’s son. Party leaders claimed that officials were violating established norms and traditions of government events to please the minister. He said that his father, Minister Rakesh Shukla, could not attend due to a cabinet meeting, and therefore he stepped in to represent him at the event.
