In a shocking case, a doctor in Sagar allegedly conspired to murder his wife, involving two tenants by offering them ₹2 lakh each. After executing the plan, he allegedly set his wife on fire inside a car and stood by with his accomplices, watching, before attempting to portray it as an accident. Police have arrested the main accused, Dr. Nilesh Kurmi, along with his associates Ramkrishna and Shubham Kurmi. Murder conspiracy hatched with tenants During interrogation, it was revealed that Dr. Nilesh Kurmi had prior acquaintance with co-accused Ramkrishna and Shubham, who ran a pathology lab in Gadhakota and regularly collected samples from his clinic. Both accused were tenants in the same house where the doctor lived. Taking advantage of this proximity, he allegedly involved them in the conspiracy to eliminate his wife. Lured by money, they not only participated in the crime but also attempted to conceal it. Assault at home, then planned cover-up According to police, the accused doctor assaulted his wife, Seema, following a domestic dispute and strangled her, leaving her unconscious. To avoid suspicion, he allegedly devised a plan to stage the murder as an accident. He placed Seema in a car and, along with his accomplices, drove toward Sagar. Set car on fire, watched from outside The accused allegedly poured petrol on the car and set it ablaze. Seema, trapped inside, was engulfed in flames while the doctor and his accomplices stood by the roadside, watching. During the incident, he also called his in-laws, falsely informing them that the car had caught fire. Evidence recovered, accused confess Initially, the co-accused tried to mislead investigators. However, under strict questioning, they confessed to the crime. Police recovered a plastic container used to carry petrol from nearby bushes, along with the matchbox used to ignite the fire. Forensic and medical evidence has also been collected. Investigators noted that despite being present at the scene, none of the accused attempted to rescue Seema or inform authorities. Cause of death still unclear While the police have uncovered the sequence of events, the exact cause of Seema’s death remains uncertain. It is yet to be determined whether she was burned alive or had already died due to strangulation. The final cause of death will be confirmed after the postmortem report. “Organized murder,” say police Additional SP Lokesh Sinha stated that the murder was carried out in a planned and organized manner. All three accused have been arrested, and further evidence is being collected. The postmortem report is still awaited. Incident took place on March 21 The incident occurred in the early hours of March 21 near Chanatoria on the Sagar–Gadhakota road under Sanoha police station limits. A car was found engulfed in flames around 4 AM. Seema died in the fire, while her husband and the two accomplices escaped without any injuries, raising suspicion from the outset. Further investigation revealed that the fire was deliberately set, leading to the arrest of the accused.
