A man allegedly murdered his wife after taking her to a forest on the pretext of an outing in Singrauli district. After committing the crime, he tried to mislead authorities by posting on social media that his wife was missing and even announced a reward for finding her. Police have arrested the accused, identified as Jaheruddin Ansari (32), from the Bargawan police station area. During interrogation, he confessed to the crime and revealed that he had married twice. Body identified through hospital slip According to SDOP Gaurav Pandey, the decomposed body of a woman was found on March 17 in a forest between Pidrawah and Chitarwai. During the investigation, police recovered documents near the body, including: Based on this information, a police team reached Kasar village, where a woman named Najma identified the deceased as her elder sister Sameena. The body was in an advanced stage of decomposition and was sent to Rewa Medical College for postmortem. Suspicion raised by husband’s behavior Police contacted Jaheruddin, who said he would arrive within half an hour but reached only after four hours, raising suspicion. However, local inquiry in Baidhan revealed that he had visited her just a few days before the incident and had taken her away on his motorcycle. CCTV footage led to arrest Police reviewed CCTV footage from the route, which showed Jaheruddin taking Sameena on a motorcycle toward Chitarwai Kala. He was later detained from his house in Chikni Tola under Bharagama police station limits, where he confessed to the crime. Motive: Dispute Over Living Together During questioning, the accused stated: He had arranged a separate rented accommodation for Sameena, but she was pressuring him to live together again. Frustrated, he planned to eliminate her. Crime details: Lured, assaulted, then killed Investigating officer Mohammad Sameer said: He then had sexual intercourse with her and shortly afterward strangled her using her dupatta. He covered the body with the same cloth and fled the scene. Fake missing post to mislead police To avoid suspicion, Jaheruddin posted on social media claiming that his wife was missing. The post read: This woman is missing. If anyone sees her, please contact the given number. A suitable reward will be given. He also filed a missing person complaint at the police station to reinforce his cover story. Legal action The accused was presented in court on March 21 and has been sent to judicial custody. Further investigation is underway.
