Madhya Pradesh’s largest hospital is set to be built in Indore. The new facility will surpass the existing MY Hospital in size. Preparations for construction have already begun. The upcoming hospital will be named New MY Hospital. According to the Health Department, a project for a state-of-the-art teaching hospital with 1,610 beds has been initiated. Administrative approval of ₹773.07 crore has been granted for its construction. Project cost and timeline The estimated construction cost of the new MY Hospital is approximately ₹586.65 crore. The tender process is currently underway and is expected to be completed soon. MLA Golu Shukla stated that MY Hospital is the lifeline of the Malwa-Nimar region. He added that the new 1,610-bed hospital will significantly enhance healthcare capacity. Construction work is expected to begin within the next two to four days, and the hospital is likely to be fully operational within three years. See how the New MY Hospital will look, first in Dainik Bhaskar Construction on 81.5 acres The hospital, as seen in its 3D visualisation, will feature a modern design with solar panels, landscaped gardens, fountains, wide plazas, a dedicated ambulance entry and a grand main entrance. This brownfield project will be developed on 81.5 acres of land through MPBDC. DDF Consultants have been appointed as the architects, while Iron Triangle Limited has secured the construction contract. The government has set a completion deadline of 36 months for the project. Several old structures, including old quarters and some blocks near the site, will be demolished. However, key facilities such as MGM Medical College, Chacha Nehru Hospital, the Super Specialty Block and the Cancer Hospital will remain intact, with only renovation work planned for them. Major boost to healthcare capacity Dr Arvind Ghanghoria, Dean of MGM Medical College, stated that the decision to build a new MY Hospital stems from the current facility’s capacity constraints. The existing MY Hospital, with around 1,450 beds, remains consistently overcrowded due to the heavy patient load. He explained that the new hospital will help accommodate the growing demand for medical services. At present, MGM Medical College has the highest bed capacity in the state. Once the new MY Hospital is completed, the overall capacity will increase further, enabling healthcare facilities in Indore to match standards seen in major cities such as Delhi and Mumbai.
