Harshit Mehra (20), a second-year MBBS student at RD Gardi Medical College in Ujjain, died in a road accident on Saturday morning after a speeding truck hit him near the college gate on Agar Road. Harshit was staying in the college hostel. According to reports, he was entering the college premises when the truck struck him. He died on the spot due to severe injuries. The truck driver abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene immediately after the accident. Students stage protest, demand speed breakers and traffic control Angered by the incident, students blocked Agar Road and staged a protest at the accident site. They sat on the road for nearly an hour, leading to long traffic jams in the area. Students demanded installation of speed breakers and strict traffic control outside the college gate. They said several accidents had occurred earlier due to speeding vehicles, but no permanent safety measures had been taken so far. Police officials, including CSP Pushpa Prajapati and Chimanganj police station in-charge Gajendra Pancharia, reached the spot after receiving information. They spoke with the protesting students and assured them that necessary road safety arrangements would be implemented. Following the assurance, students ended the blockade. Only son, talented student known for academic and musical excellence Harshit was originally from Indore and was the only son in his family. His father had passed away earlier, and his mother works as a mehendi designer. Faculty members described him as a bright and talented student. Dr Ruchi Mishra from the Physiotherapy Department said Harshit was not only good in academics but also highly talented in music. He had won several awards during the college’s recent Silver Jubilee celebrations. Police said efforts are underway to trace and arrest the truck driver, and further investigation is in progress.
