A 65-year-old woman from Uttar Pradesh suffered a sudden heart attack and died shortly after taking her seat in the pandal during Pandit Pradeep Mishra’s Shiv Mahapuran Katha in Dabra, Gwalior district, on Friday. The deceased, identified as Pushpa Devi from Etawah, had been attending the Katha at the Navgrah Shakti Peeth in Dabra for the past two days. On Friday morning, as she settled into her seat, she suddenly experienced severe chest pain and collapsed unconscious. Family attempts rescue Pushpa Devi’s relative, Santosh Soni, said the family immediately tried to revive her with CPR. However, foam appeared from her mouth, and she was rushed to a temporary medical facility set up at the Katha venue. Doctors examined her and declared her dead. She had experienced a severe cardiac episode around two years ago and had been under treatment since then. Despite her illness, she had travelled to Dabra out of devotion to Lord Shiva and stayed with relatives to attend the religious discourse. Arrival in Dabra and event details Pushpa Devi arrived in Dabra from Etawah on 11 February with her sister-in-law. She stayed at relatives’ home near Sarafa Bazaar and had been regularly attending the Katha for the past two days. Friday morning, however, proved to be her final day. The Katha is part of the Pran Pratishtha Ceremony at the Navgrah Temple in Dabra. The event had already seen a tragic incident on 10 February, when a 70-year-old woman, Rati Sahu, died in a stampede during the Kalash Yatra, and eight others, including a child, were injured. The stampede occurred when the police unexpectedly opened the stadium gates while distributing the ceremonial Kalash, causing the crowd to panic. Rati Sahu’s daughter-in-law had accused the police of negligence, stating that the crowd was not properly controlled, leading to her mother-in-law being trampled.
