A wedding celebration in Raisen turned chaotic on Thursday night after celebratory firing by the groom’s friend left four youths from Bhopal injured, two of them critically. The incident occurred around 10:30 pm outside a garden on Sagar Road, where the wedding of Pallavi, daughter of Raisen resident Hemlata Kanhaiyalal Piperolia, was being held. Pallavi was being married to Mohit, a resident of Bhopal. As the wedding procession reached the main gate of the venue, a man present at the spot attempted celebratory firing with a gun. While the weapon was pointed downward, the trigger was accidentally pulled, causing the gun to discharge. After the incident, the accused fled the scene but was later arrested in Vidisha late at night. Live ammunition used in ‘celebratory firing’ During the investigation, police found that live ammunition was used instead of sound cartridges. The 12-bore gun was loaded with two bullets—one was fired upward, while the second discharged when the barrel tilted downward and the trigger was pulled. The injured have been identified as Atul Dhakad, Pawan Chourasia, Saurabh Bhartole (a photographer), and Animesh Kushwaha, all residents of Bhopal. Two victims in critical condition The injured were rushed to the district hospital. Doctors said two of the youths are in critical condition—one sustained pellet injuries to the thigh, while another suffered serious injuries to the foot. The remaining two were given first aid and later referred to Bhopal for advanced treatment. Case registered, probe on Raisen police have registered a case and are questioning the accused. Officials said further investigation is underway to determine accountability and ensure strict action against those involved in illegal celebratory firing.
