fake-video-claims-emergency-aircraft-landing-at-jabalpur:ai-generated-clip-triggers-action-by-airport-authority;-police-begin-search-for-accused-behind-misleading-content

A social media user shared a dramatic video purporting that a passenger aircraft had made an emergency landing at Jabalpur railway station. After the clip went viral, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) and local police took swift action. The video was later found to be generated using artificial intelligence (AI), raising serious concerns about public panic and the misuse of technology to gain online attention. Viral video claims plane landed on railway tracks The 14-second video shows a young man narrating what he calls an “extraordinary incident” at a railway station, alleging that a passenger aircraft made an emergency landing on railway tracks. In the clip, the narrator claims that police are present at the scene, people are being kept away, and the pilot has cited technical failure as the reason for not reaching the airport and landing at the railway station instead. Another clip shows aircraft ‘landing’ in a field In a related video, a large aircraft is shown landing in an open field. The narrator claims that a large number of villagers gathered to watch the plane and record videos, while police allegedly struggled to control the crowd. Both videos circulated widely across social media platforms, creating confusion and alarm among viewers. Airport Authority confirms AI-generated content Jabalpur Airport Director R.R. Pandey took serious note of the viral videos and confirmed that they were fabricated using AI tools. He immediately referred the matter to the police and appealed to the public not to create or share such misleading content for the sake of likes and views. “Such videos cause unnecessary panic, especially among less-informed people. They get disturbed, worry about their families, and start calling airport or railway authorities, or even rush to these locations,” Pandey said. Security meeting held, police asked to act Pandey added that as soon as the videos came to the authorities’ notice, a security meeting was convened involving CRPF personnel and local police officials. Instructions were issued to take cognisance of the matter and register a formal complaint. ‘Only aim is views and likes,’ says Airport Director Calling the act irresponsible, the airport director said the sole intention behind such content is to gain social media traction, while the impact on public safety and trust is ignored. Police have begun efforts to identify and trace the creator of the fake videos. Authorities have once again urged people to verify information before sharing content online and warned that strict legal action will be taken against those spreading false and misleading videos.
