The death toll from contaminated water in Indore’s Bhagirathpura area polluted tap water incident, has risen to 23, while 39 patients remain hospitalized, including 10 in the ICU. Of these, three patients—Hiralal, Eknath Suryavanshi, and Parvatibai—are on ventilators. Fear and panic continue to grip the local population amid the ongoing fatalities. Water supply resumes for testing Authorities have announced that water supply will resume on Tuesday, not for consumption but for leak detection and sample collection. Further action will depend on the results of these water quality tests. Senior officials from the administration, municipal corporation, Narmada Control, and health department will monitor the situation in the morning. Key figures, including Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya, Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargav, local councillor Kamla Vaghela, and MIC members, may also be present on-site. New cases reported On Monday, 11 new diarrhea patients were admitted, of whom two were referred to other hospitals. So far, 434 patients have been hospitalized in connection with this outbreak. Of them, 395 have been discharged, 19 remain in the ICU, and three are currently on ventilators. Three ambulances continue to be stationed in the area 24/7 to respond to emergencies. Citywide water hearings In response to the crisis, the Indore Municipal Corporation is holding “Water Hearings” across all 85 wards today. Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargav and Commissioner Kshitij Singhal noted that the clean water campaign was launched on January 10. Under this campaign, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Tuesday, citizens can raise complaints and suggestions related to drinking water supply. Issues will be addressed as a priority at the zone level, while matters requiring higher intervention will be sent to the headquarters for immediate action.
