Investment proposals worth ₹2,246 crore have been approved for Phase-II of the Pithampur Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in Madhya Pradesh. The projects are expected to create around 1,900 direct jobs and generate exports worth nearly ₹20,000 crore over the next five years, according to Himanshu Prajapati, Executive Director of the Madhya Pradesh Industrial Development Corporation (MPIDC). Prajapati said the proposals were cleared during the first meeting of the Approval Committee for the current financial year, chaired by the Development Commissioner, SEZ. All approved investments will be made in Pithampur SEZ Phase-II, providing a significant boost to industrial activity in the region. Pharmaceutical sector to drive investments The pharmaceutical industry accounts for the bulk of the approved investment proposals. Among the key projects is the expansion of Ajanta Pharma’s existing operations, along with the establishment of a new manufacturing unit. Other companies, including Felix Generics and Shankar Nutricon, will also invest in expanding their production capacities. Major boost to exports and employment According to MPIDC, the new industrial units are expected to significantly strengthen both employment generation and export performance from the Pithampur SEZ. The corporation estimates that once operational, these projects will collectively contribute exports worth approximately ₹20,000 crore over the next five years, while creating substantial direct employment opportunities. Pithampur emerging as a key industrial investment hub Prajapati said Pithampur SEZ continues to attract strong investor interest due to its growing industrial ecosystem. He added that the new projects will accelerate Madhya Pradesh’s industrial growth and further strengthen the state’s position in the pharmaceutical and manufacturing sectors.
