The continuing series of flight cancellations by IndiGo Airlines at Devi Ahilyabai Holkar International Airport, Indore, has once again caused inconvenience to air travellers. On Monday, the airline cancelled four flights operating between Indore–Delhi and Indore–Chennai, leaving passengers stranded and frustrated, especially those who had made advance bookings. According to airport officials, the cancellations are part of an ongoing disruption that has persisted since December 1, with IndiGo citing a shortage of crew and operational constraints as the main reasons. Despite assurances and regulatory adjustments, the situation has shown little improvement, raising concerns among frequent flyers. Four flights cancelled on Monday Airport sources confirmed that a total of four IndiGo flights were cancelled during the day. These included the 12:00 pm flight from Delhi to Indore and the 12:30 pm return flight from Indore to Delhi. In addition, the 9:40 pm flight from Chennai to Indore and the 10:10 pm flight from Indore to Chennai were also called off. The airline described the cancellations as being due to “operational reasons,” a term that has been repeatedly used in recent weeks. However, passengers have complained about the lack of clarity and last-minute notifications, which have disrupted their travel plans. Crew shortage and Timing rules IndiGo has been cancelling flights since early December, primarily blaming a crew shortage. This is occurring even after the government extended the duration of newly implemented flight timing regulations until February. Despite this extension, cancellations from Indore continue, suggesting deeper operational challenges. Industry observers note that repeated disruptions not only inconvenience passengers but also impact the airport’s overall connectivity, especially on long-distance routes. Rebooking and Refunds offered Following the cancellations, IndiGo said it provided affected passengers with options for refunds, rebooking, and rescheduling. The airline also claimed it was trying to accommodate passengers on alternative flights wherever seats were available. However, many travellers said these measures were insufficient, particularly when alternative flights were either fully booked or involved long layovers. Chennai-bound passengers most affected Passengers travelling to Chennai faced the maximum inconvenience. Indore has only one direct flight to Chennai, unlike Delhi, which is connected by multiple daily flights. As a result, Chennai-bound passengers were either forced to postpone their travel until the next day or reroute through other cities such as Mumbai or Bengaluru. This not only increased travel time but also resulted in higher costs, especially for passengers who had to make fresh bookings at short notice. Growing passenger frustration Frequent flyers and business travellers expressed frustration over the repeated cancellations, stating that uncertainty around flights has made planning difficult. Several passengers urged IndiGo to provide advance information and ensure better operational planning to avoid last-minute disruptions. With cancellations continuing despite regulatory support, travellers hope the airline will take corrective measures soon to restore confidence and ensure reliable air connectivity from Indore, particularly on key routes like Delhi and Chennai.
