A private school teacher reportedly assaulted an 11-year-old student for not completing his homework in Rewa. The teacher allegedly hit the child on the head with a steel water bottle and repeatedly slammed him against a wall, leaving him bleeding and traumatized. The incident took place at Gentle Shepherd Higher Secondary School. Despite the child being seriously injured, the school management allegedly neither provided medical treatment nor informed the family. Sister assaulted while trying to save brother The victim’s sister, who studies in the same school, tried to intervene after seeing her brother being beaten. According to the family, the teacher—identified as Manisha Vishwakarma—also assaulted the girl when she attempted to stop the attack. Family alleges attempt to suppress the matter The child’s family has accused the school management of trying to suppress the incident since Saturday evening (December 20). They claim that despite visible bleeding, the child was sent home without medical help. The family came forward publicly late Sunday night and said they would lodge a police complaint on Monday (December 22). Father’s anguish: “I pay more than I can afford” The victim’s father, Pushpendra Pandey, expressed deep anger and anguish. “I work extremely hard and pay school fees beyond my capacity. Does that mean my child’s head can be cracked open? He was punished so brutally just because one or two chapters were incomplete,” he said. He also alleged that pressure was being exerted on the family not to file an FIR, despite approaching the police and the SDOP. Child in shock, under medical treatment Family members said the child is in severe psychological shock following the incident. He has developed a high fever, stopped eating and drinking, and gets frightened at the mention of school. Being beaten in front of classmates has deeply affected his mental state. The child is currently undergoing treatment. ABVP issues three-day ultimatum The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has issued a three-day ultimatum to the administration. District convenor P.N. Pandey warned that if strict action is not taken, the organization will launch an aggressive protest. He said incidents like this raise serious questions about child safety in Rewa, recalling previous cases such as the Jyoti School incident and a student suicide in Semaria, where even the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights had to intervene. Education Department orders probe District Education Officer Ramraj Mishra confirmed that a complaint regarding the assault has been received. “Instructions have been issued to investigate the matter. If negligence or misconduct by the teacher or school management is found, strict action will be taken as per rules,” he said. The case has sparked outrage and renewed debate over student safety and corporal punishment in private schools.
