Police have registered an FIR against two Christian pastors and five other named people in Jhabua district after allegations of forced religious conversion and assault on a tribal youth. The case escalated following late-night protests by the Sarva Adivasi Samaj, which demanded strict action. Incident in Madrani village The incident took place in Madrani village under Kakanwani police limits. The victim has been identified as Gendal Damor, a tribal youth from the village. On Friday, Gendal was returning home when he was allegedly stopped on the way by two Christian pastors and some local residents. Allegation of forced conversion According to the complaint, the accused pressured Gendal to convert to Christianity. They allegedly used force and intimidation to make him change his religion. Police confirmed that a case has been registered and an investigation has begun. Threats after refusal The youth told police that when he refused to convert, the accused threatened to kill him. He was warned of serious consequences for saying no. Assault and stone pelting The victim alleged that he was assaulted during the incident. Stones were thrown at him, causing injuries. It also emerged that stones were later thrown towards the accused’s house, adding to the tension in the area. Protests by tribal community After news of the incident spread, members of the Sarva Adivasi Samaj gathered in large numbers. They staged protests late into the night. Protesters reached Kakanwani Police Station and the Madrani police outpost. They raised slogans and demanded immediate and strict action against those involved. Memorandum submitted to administration Community representatives submitted a memorandum to the administration. They alleged that illegal conversion attempts using greed, pressure and threats are increasing in tribal areas. Leaders claimed that innocent tribals are being targeted to weaken their traditions, culture and identity.
