There is a growing problem of rats in hospitals across the state these days. After Indore and Jabalpur Medical College, rats have now been spotted at the Jabalpur District Hospital as well. A video from the orthopaedics ward has surfaced, showing three rats moving around a patient’s bed and even climbing over a tiffin box. The video was recorded by the patient’s family members. The video has also been shared by Samajwadi Party state secretary Ashish Mishra. He accused the hospital administration of serious negligence and said such mismanagement is putting the lives of admitted patients at risk. Complaints made multiple times The patient’s relatives allege that rats are openly roaming in the ICU ward, raising questions about patient safety. They say that the problem of rats has persisted for several days. Complaints were made to the nursing staff and doctors multiple times in this regard, but no concrete action was taken. They were forced to make a video and make it public. Chief Medical and Health Officer Dr. Sanjay Mishra said that the matter has come to his notice. If the viral video is found to be true, the matter will be investigated and necessary action will be taken against those responsible. Two patients’ feet were gnawed three months ago Three months ago, a case of rats was reported at Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Medical College. The feet of two patients admitted to the hospital’s psychiatry department were gnawed by rats. Renovation work was underway in the psychiatry department building. Thus, the department was operating from the orthopedics department building. The incident occurred in a ward on the first floor of this building. The investigation revealed negligence on the part of the doctors and staff of the psychiatry department. Two newborns died in Indore Three months ago, two newborns died in the NICU of the state’s largest government MY Hospital due to rat bites. These newborns were admitted to the ward when rats gnawed at their hands and feet. Due to infection, both newborns died within two days. The Human Rights Commission had taken cognizance of this matter. The commission had sought a report from the hospital superintendent within a month, and the medical education department had sought clarification from the dean. Two nursing officers were suspended in the matter. A high-level committee was formed to investigate the matter.
