The district administration has intensified inspections against food adulteration in Indore, uncovering substandard ghee, irregular licensing practices and unhygienic manufacturing conditions across multiple units. Seven ghee samples fail; three firms found operating irregularly On October 29, Food and Drug Administration teams inspected Palda-based Shri Ram Milk Food Dairy Industries and two other firms functioning from the same premises under different licences. Ten samples of ghee from various brands and pack sizes were collected, and 3,409 litres of ghee worth nearly Rs20 lakh was seized. Laboratory tests have confirmed seven samples as substandard, failing on nearly five parameters. The failed batches include SRMI Mother Choice (1L, 500ml, 100ml), SRMI Milk Cream variants and loose ghee, all packed by the same group. The investigation found that the three licensee firms shared the same entry–exit point, machinery and storage, despite claiming to be separate units. All financial transactions were handled by Narendra Kumar Gupta, while one firm listed another person as proprietor, with no GST or banking trail to back the claim. The brand has a record of past adulteration cases, with convictions in Indore, Dewas, Dhar and Harda, and pending cases in Ujjain, Mandsaur and Rajasthan. All three licences have now been suspended, and the case will be filed before the competent court after completion of the probe. Suspected fake ghee seized at Shyam Marketing In another major action today, officials raided Shyam Marketing at Gadi Adda, where ghee was being sold at just Rs270 per kg, raising suspicion of adulteration. Four samples were taken and 74 kg of suspected fake ghee was seized. Saurabh Sheetlani was present during the inspection. Gajak unit found unhygienic; notice issued Inspection at Parv Food Productions in Palhar Nagar revealed that gajak and chikki were being manufactured and stored in unclean, unsafe conditions. Samples were collected, and the operator has been issued a notice. Failure to correct violations within the stipulated period will lead to suspension of the unit’s registration.
