A woman lost her baby after an ambulance carrying her for delivery was delayed by traffic jams at two locations. Tulsa Kol (29) of Bhadanpur village went into labour on Thursday night but could not reach the hospital on time, and later gave birth to a stillborn child. Her family, angered by the delay, blocked the road the next morning, demanding better traffic management. An ambulance reached her village by 9 PM, and her family left for Maihar Civil Hospital. On the way, the ambulance got stuck for an hour near Ultratech Cement Factory and later for two hours while being taken to Satna District Hospital. Traffic jams worsen situation Tulsa’s mother-in-law, Nirabai, said there was a long queue of heavy vehicles near the cement factory, about eight kilometres from Maihar. The ambulance could not move, and the woman was in severe pain. The family reached Maihar Civil Hospital around 10:15 PM, where doctors referred her to Satna District Hospital due to her condition. Road construction adds delay The road to Satna had ongoing construction work, causing a two-hour traffic jam. The ambulance finally reached Satna District Hospital around 2 AM, where Tulsa gave birth to a stillborn child. Nirabai added that this was the couple’s first child, and her son had married just a year ago. Family protests, road blocked Angered by the incident, family members blocked the road in front of Ultratech Cement Factory around 11 AM on Friday. Trucks were not allowed to enter, and vehicles queued up on both sides. After about one and a half hours, factory officials arrived and promised to improve traffic arrangements. The protest was then withdrawn. Cause of traffic jams Villagers said stone-laden trucks from the factory are parked haphazardly at night, causing regular traffic jams. Hospital statement Dr Deepak Tiwari, gynecologist at Maihar Civil Hospital, said Tulsa was brought to the hospital late at night with heavy bleeding. Due to her serious condition, she was referred to Satna District Hospital, where she remains admitted.
