A national webinar on “Impact of GST on the Indian Economy” was organised on Thursday by the Government Naveen college of Arts and Commerce, located in Bhopal’s Jehangirabad. The event brought together academicians, researchers, and students from across the country to discuss the transformative effects of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) on India’s fiscal structure. Principal highlights GST as a historic reform The webinar commenced with an overview by Dr GL Malviya, the programme convener. Principal Dr Pradeep Kumar Sharma delivered the inaugural address, describing GST as a “historic reform” that unified India’s diverse tax systems into the vision of One Nation, One Tax, One Market. He underscored that GST has significantly enhanced transparency and contributed to higher revenue collection. Speakers emphasise organised growth and transparency Dr. Mathura Prasad, Additional Director of the Department of Higher Education (Narmadapuram Division), commended the organisers, noting that GST has given the Indian economy an organised framework and simplified trade activities. He added that such academic discussions play an important role in enriching students’ and researchers’ knowledge. The keynote address was delivered by Dr Kapil Dev Sharma, former Principal of Lord Buddha Institute of Technology and Science, located in Rajasthan’s Kota, who elaborated on the practical aspects of GST implementation. He said the system has played a vital role in balancing revenue between the Centre and the States and represents a major step towards modernising tax administration. Dr Ashok Agrawal, former Dean and Head of the Faculty of Commerce at the University of Rajasthan in Jaipur highlighted that GST has provided a simplified and transparent structure for small and medium enterprises. While acknowledging initial challenges, he opined that the system will serve as a foundation for long-term economic growth. 71 research papers received nationwide A total of 71 research papers were received from across India, with presentations from nine scholars, including Dr. Anil Kumar, Dr. Nikita Goswami, Dr. Shailendra Solanki, Dr. Afsar Ali, Dr. Ghanshyam Chouksey, Dr. Nilesh Mishra, Dr. Jaya Sharma, Dr. Geetanjali Sharma, and Dr. Rajesh Kumar Srivastava. The organising team included Dr GL Malviya (Convener), Dr. Rajeev Chaubey and Dr. Rakesh Kumar Rana (Co-conveners). Dr. Sangeeta Gaur and Dr. Arpana Kadu were part of the Organising Committee; Hirdesh Patidar and Harshalata Soni managed the Technical Committee, while the Publication Committee comprised Dr. Rajeev Chaubey, Lieutenant Aaradhana Dhurve, Leena Chouksey, and Dr. Roshni. The programme was conducted by Dr. Divya Septa and Dr. Anshul Sharma, with a vote of thanks proposed by Dr. Muktesh Kumar Tiwari. The event concluded with Principal Dr. Sharma congratulating all participants, speakers, and organisers on the successful completion of the national webinar.
