A 62-year-old man, Khwaja Hussain, was arrested by the Neemuch police for posting a WhatsApp status featuring a statement by Congress national spokesperson Pawan Khera. The incident occurred in Singoli, Neemuch district, and Hussain, who runs a puncture shop, was sent to jail following the case registration. Details of the arrest Local Congress leader Pankaj Tiwari had shared Khera’s statement in a social media group. Hussain reportedly made a WhatsApp status of the statement, which was viewed by only nine people. Despite this limited reach, police allegedly arrived at his shop and took him to the station. Hussain claimed that on October 13 at 7 PM, three police officers came to his shop, seized his phone, and verbally abused him. He said he was humiliated and mistreated during the detention, with authorities targeting him allegedly because of his minority status. Singhar said – Officials will be held accountable The matter reached Congress national spokesperson Pawan Khera, who coordinated with local party leaders to secure Hussain’s bail. Opposition leader Umang Singhar highlighted on social media that Hussain had been unjustly arrested for sharing a statement about a sensitive case in Kerala involving the RSS. Singhar criticized the state government and RSS, stating that officers carried out unconstitutional actions on the orders of ruling party leaders. Congress district president Tarun Baheti and local worker Pankaj Tiwari also played a key role in securing Hussain’s release. Arrested for being Muslim: Pawan Khera The status in question Hussain had posted a status featuring Pawan Khera’s statement about an alleged sexual abuse case by RSS workers in Kerala, in which a young engineer committed suicide. Khera’s post described the RSS as “wolves in sheep’s clothing,” highlighting discrepancies between its public image and internal activities. Allegations of police misconduct Hussain alleged that the police insulted his mother and sisters, abused him verbally, and physically harassed him. He also said the officer in charge repeatedly mistreated him, particularly targeting Muslims, and even attempted to have his bail canceled. Current status Following intervention by Congress leaders and the national spokesperson, Khwaja Hussain was granted bail and released from jail, ending a politically and socially sensitive case that had drawn attention across the district.
