Minister of State for Medical Education and Chhindwara district in-charge, Narendra Shivaji Patel, has spoken about the deaths of children after drinking syrup. Late on Saturday night, the minister visited the District Hospital in Betul to review the situation. Speaking to the media afterward, he said that the action taken against the doctor who gave the syrup to the children is completely lawful. Medicine was not to be given to children under 4 years of age Minister Patel said that when it is clearly written in rules and medical books that this medicine should not be given to children younger than four years, then why was this syrup given to six-month-old children? He questioned why such a brand was chosen that was only available at the doctor’s wife’s shop. He clearly stated that prima facie, the doctor is guilty. Hospital inspection, met with patients The minister inspected the hospital’s registration counter, emergency ward, geriatric ward, and male medical ward. He spoke to the admitted patients and inquired about the arrangements. After this, he visited the women and child care unit. Here, a child named Gauri, who was undergoing treatment, expressed a desire for a selfie with the minister, to which the minister smiled and took a selfie with her. Expressed satisfaction with arrangements, praised staff After the inspection, Minister Patel expressed satisfaction with the hospital’s arrangements and praised the dedication of the doctors and nursing staff. He encouraged everyone to remain fully committed to public service. Culprits will not be spared Speaking on the syrup incident, the minister said that those whose negligence led to the death of children will not be spared under any circumstances. The government’s first priority is that children admitted to the hospital receive better treatment and that such incidents do not recur in the future. For this, a concrete system is being put in place. Health services are strengthening in the state The minister informed that the state government is continuously working to strengthen health services. Laboratories are being modernized and the health staff is being strengthened through new recruitments. He also said that the previous Congress government did not show much interest in opening medical colleges, whereas the current government has started five new medical colleges in just one year. Approval for 46 thousand new posts Minister Patel informed that 46 thousand new posts have been approved for the health department in the state.
