A shocking case of assault on a woman has emerged from rural Bhopal’s Sukhi Sewaniya area on Saturday, involving BJP Bilkhiriya Mandal’s General Secretary, Sakun Sharma, the police said. As per police, she was allegedly beaten up by members of a Gurjar family in Siddh Nagar Colony in Omkara Sewania. A video of the incident has surfaced, showing Sharma being dragged and slapped repeatedly on the ground. Assault linked to dispute over entering temple According to the victim, the attack took place when she had gone to offer prayers at the local temple dedicated to Lord Shiva in her colony. She told the cops that while speaking on the phone, she was confronted by the accused, and a heated argument followed, escalating into physical violence. Sharma claims the Gurjar community has illegally occupied the temple and often prevents members of the Brahmin community from performing rituals there. She further alleged that just three days earlier, another priest’s family was attacked over the same issue. Police complaint filed against 6 In her complaint, Sharma named six individuals, three men and three women, responsible for the assault. However, no arrests have been made so far. Sukhi Sewania police station in-charge Rambabu Choudhary told Bhaskar English that an FIR has been registered against four accused, including three women and one man, and that an investigation is ongoing. Victim’s account of the incident Narrating her ordeal, Sharma said she lives alone in the village while her husband works as a cook at a hotel in Ashoka Garden, and her son lives near his workplace in Misrod. On Friday evening, while heading to the temple, she was abused verbally and later attacked by members of the Gurjar family. She tried locking herself inside her home and later informed police. When she stepped out with a community member to go to the police station, she was allegedly surrounded by Balram Gurjar, Sunil Gurjar, Anurag Gurjar, Annu Gurjar, and Geeta Gurjar, who beat her severely until villagers intervened to save her life. Allegation of social harassment surface too Sharma further alleged that the Gurjar families are deliberately targeting Brahmins to force them out of the village. She added that because of her political role, she was singled out and continues to face threats.
