The festival of Vijayadashmi or Dussehra is being celebrated across the country today. The day also marks the culmination of Navratri and Durga Puja. The festival is celebrated to remember Lord Ram’s victory over Ravana, marking the triumph of good over evil. Madhya Pradesh is celebrating Vijayadashami across cities like Bhopal, Indore, Gwalior, and Ujjain with grand Ravana effigy burnings. In Bhopal, a 100-foot tall Ravana effigy is set up at Chola Dussehra Maidan, though mischief by some youths led to it being burned early. Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav will attend the main event. Indore will witness the burning of a 111-foot Ravana effigy along with a 250-foot replica of Lanka, adding patriotic symbolism to the celebrations. Ujjain will feature a 101-foot Ravana effigy, whose destruction will be simulated using a BrahMos missile, following a ceremonial Mahakal procession. The celebrations blend traditional rituals, modern spectacle, and national pride, drawing thousands of spectators across the state.
