The Congress demanded that Indore be made free of illegal hoardings to preserve the city’s aesthetics on Monday. The protest was led by the Leader of the Opposition in the Indore Municipal Corporation, the City Congress President, and several party workers, who demonstrated outside the Municipal Corporation headquarters before submitting a memorandum addressed to the Municipal Commissioner. Congress workers raise slogans against illegal hoardings City Congress President Chintu Chouksey and Leader of the Opposition in the Municipal Corporation Sonila Mimrot led the protest, during which party workers raised slogans such as, “Down with BJP’s dictatorship,” “Stop illegal hoardings,” and “Illegal hoardings will not be allowed.” The protesters alleged that political parties routinely install hoardings across the city to mark leaders’ birthdays and other events, regardless of regulations. Calls for strict enforcement of existing policy Chouksey and Mimrot said indiscriminate installation of hoardings has adversely affected the city’s appearance. The Congress leaders pointed out that the Municipal Corporation had previously implemented a policy under which teams promptly removed illegal hoardings, often overnight. They demanded that the same policy be enforced impartially to maintain the city’s beauty and ensure that no unauthorised hoardings are allowed. Memorandum submitted to civic body The Congress submitted a memorandum addressed to the Municipal Commissioner, urging strict action against illegal hoardings across Indore. As the Municipal Commissioner was not present at the headquarters, the memorandum was received by the Additional Municipal Commissioner, who assured the delegation that appropriate action would be taken on their demands.
