A 30-year-old man, Mohit Patwa, resident of Ward No. 4 in Malthon, Bina, died by suicide on Thursday afternoon by hanging himself at his home, allegedly due to harassment and blackmail. Enraged by the incident, Mohit’s family members, along with local Hindu organizations, blocked the Malthon highway on Friday afternoon, demanding strict action against those accused of driving him to take the extreme step. The protest began around 1 PM and continued late into the evening, causing heavy traffic congestion with vehicles stranded for 2–3 kilometres on the National Highway. During the agitation, the crowd vandalized the shop belonging to Sana Khan’s brother, but police intervened quickly to prevent further escalation. Videos recorded before suicide Before ending his life, Mohit recorded two videos in which he named Rashmi Patwa, Anish Khan, and Sania Khan, accusing them of blackmailing him and holding them responsible for his death. In the videos, Mohit also made serious allegations against Anish and Sania Khan, claiming they were involved in encouraging Hindu girls to convert religions. Incident details At the time of the incident, Mohit was at home with his wife. According to police, Mohit went into another room, and when his wife returned from the kitchen with tea, she found him hanging from the ceiling hook. Police were immediately informed and reached the spot. They brought down the body and sent it to the hospital mortuary. A mobile phone containing the recorded videos was recovered from Mohit’s pocket. The post-mortem is scheduled to be conducted on Friday morning in the presence of family members. Protesters demand demolition of accused’s house The protesters have demanded the immediate arrest of the accused and the demolition of their houses, similar to actions taken in other cases. To control the situation, additional police forces from Khurai and Khimlasa were deployed alongside local Malthon police. SDM Manoj Chaurasia met with the protesters and assured them that a thorough investigation would be carried out and strict action would be taken against those found guilty.
