India suffered an embarrassing 125-run loss to England in the third T20I of the five-match series in Nottingham on 7 July. This was India’s biggest-ever loss in T20I cricket in terms of runs. Batting first, England scored 201/7 riding on a fifty from Phil Salt. In response, India were bowled out for just 76 runs in 11.4 overs, their second-lowest total in T20I cricket. Shreyas Iyer’s wait for a win as T20I captain continued as England went 2-0 up in the series. From MS Dhoni’s surprise appearance at Trent Bridge to the stump microphone catching Shreyas Iyer’s conversation with his Indian teammates before taking a DRS, the match witnessed some interesting moments. Let’s take a look at them.
IND vs ENG 3rd T20I Top Moments 1) MS Dhoni surprises fans with appearance at Trent bridge on birthday While fans across several parts of India and the world celebrated MS Dhoni’s 45th birthday, ‘Thala’ himself decided to show up at Trent Bridge in Nottingham to watch the match. As the match was going on, the camera showed Dhoni in the stands, enjoying the contest between the two teams. In another video, Dhoni was seen having an interaction with fans wherein he appeared to show his beard and also made a gesture, likely hinting at difficulty in walking. The clip has gone viral on social media. Dhoni missed IPL 2026 due to injuries, one of which was a calf strain. 2) ‘Jaana hai Arshdeep, jaldi bol,’ Shreyas Iyer consults teammates before unsuccessful review Like every captain, Shreyas Iyer consulted his teammates before going for a review in the very first over of the match. Arshdeep Singh, who dismissed Phil Salt for a duck in the last game, hit the batter on his pads and appealed hard, only for the umpire to remain unfazed. The Indian players were considering whether they should use the DRS (Decision Review System) or not. Their conversation was caught on a stump microphone. “Andar bhi toh aya na shuffle karke,” said Arshdeep (the ball came in after the batter shuffled), to which Ishan Kishan replied, “Impact udhar hi hai,” (the impact was right there). Shreyas then asked, “Jaana hai Arshdeep, jaldi bol?” (Arshdeep do you want the review, say fast). And interestingly, the review was wasted as the ball-tracker showed the delivery pitching outside leg stump. 3) Vaibhav Sooryavanshi holds onto well-judged catch Vaibhav Sooryavanshi had a spectacular moment on the field when he took a good catch to dismiss Jacob Bethell in the 12th over. Bethell had made the difference in England’s win over India in the last match, but this time, he could not make much of an impact. The left-hander, facing Harshit Rana, attempted to slog the ball with all his power but ended up hitting it high in the air. And Sooryavanshi ran in from the deep, kept his eyes on the ball and took a well-judged catch. 4) Vaibhav Sooryavanshi smashes Jofra Archer for a six That Sooryavanshi bats without any fear is a known fact and he showed it once again when he took the attack to Jofra Archer. This happened in the first over of the chase when Archer bowled a delivery outside off-stump and Sooryavanshi went at it with force, sending the ball over the third man fence for a six. 5) Prince Yadav takes a wicket with his first ball Playing just his second T20I match, Prince Yadav made an impact right away, with his first ball. The right-arm pacer was brought on to bowl the final over of the powerplay with Jos Buttler on 36 and England going well at 43/0. And he delivered a sensational yorker right away which got under Buttler’s bat and hit the stumps. IND vs ENG 3rd T20I Records 1) India suffer heaviest defeat in T20Is (by runs) The 125-run loss to England was India’s biggest in terms of runs. Their previous biggest loss was by 80 runs to New Zealand in Wellington in the year 2019. This was also the first time India have lost a T20I by a margin of 100 or more runs. 2) India register second-lowest total in T20Is India were bowled out for just 76 runs, which is their lowest total (when they have been all out) in T20Is. India’s previous lowest all-out total was 74 against Australia in Melbourne, way back in 2008. 3) India lost first five wickets inside powerplay for first time This was the first time that India lost their first five wickets inside the powerplay in a T20I. England had reduced India to 54/5 after six overs in the second innings. India lost four wickets against USA and Ireland this year in powerplay.
