Ahead of the monsoon, the Railways has launched a major maintenance drive to strengthen bridges on the Gwalior-Jhansi railway section. Around ₹2.9 crore will be spent on repair and protection work to safeguard the bridges from rain, moisture and rust, ensuring safe and smooth train operations during the monsoon season. As part of the campaign, repair work will be carried out on several bridges across the section, along with the application of special anti-corrosion paint to prevent rusting. The Railways aims to improve the durability of the bridges and minimise disruptions to rail services during heavy rains. More than 130 bridges on 163 km railway section The Gwalior-Jhansi railway section is about 163 kilometres long. More than 130 small and large railway bridges are built on this entire route. A large number of passenger trains and freight trains pass through these bridges every day. During the rainy season, these bridges are more affected by water, moisture, and rust. Keeping this in mind, the Railways have started maintenance work in time. Along with railway bridges, foot overbridges and road overbridges will also be repaired Under this scheme, not only railway bridges, but also Foot Overbridges (FOBs), Road Overbridges (ROBs) and track girder bridges will be repaired. Where necessary, damaged parts will be repaired and strengthened. Anti-corrosion coating to be applied after rust removal Railways will first completely clean the rust accumulated on the iron surface of the bridges. After this, high-quality anti-corrosion coating and special paint will be applied. This will protect the bridges from the effects of rain, moisture, and weather for a long time. Additionally, the strength of the iron structure will be maintained. Maintenance to increase bridge lifespan, reduce future costs Railway officials state that timely maintenance and protective painting ensure the functionality and strength of bridges remain intact for a long time. This reduces the need for major repair works in the future and also decreases maintenance costs. Work to be completed in one year Manoj Singh, Public Relations Officer of Jhansi Railway Division, stated that this entire project is targeted to be completed within one year. After the completion of the work, all bridges will be safer than before. Additionally, their appearance will also look better. According to the Railways, this campaign is a significant step towards ensuring passenger safety and strengthening railway infrastructure.
