The judicial custody of retired judge Giribala Singh and her son, advocate Samarth Singh, who are accused in the suspicious death case of actress-model Twisha Sharma, has been extended until July 14. The two accused were produced before a Bhopal court via video conferencing on Tuesday. During the hearing, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) filed two applications to further its investigation. The agency sought the court’s permission to obtain the password to Samarth Singh’s laptop and to collect voice samples from both accused. The court is scheduled to hear these applications on July 3. Laptop password needed for forensic examination Twisha Sharma’s counsel, Shubhang Dixit, said the CBI had already seized Samarth Singh’s laptop, but the device remains locked. According to him, investigators require the password to access the laptop and complete the forensic examination as part of the collection of digital evidence. Dixit added that, regarding the application seeking voice samples, the court has asked the defence to file its response before any decision is taken. Court rejects oral plea related to separate theft case During the proceedings, counsel for the accused informed the court that a theft had recently taken place at retired judge Giribala Singh’s residence. The defence requested that she be taken to the concerned police station jurisdiction to identify the items allegedly stolen. The CBI opposed the request, arguing that the theft and Twisha Sharma’s death are separate cases, and therefore the issue could not be considered during the current proceedings. The court observed that if the accused wished to pursue such a request, they would have to submit a formal written application. It stated that no order could be passed solely on the basis of an oral submission. Following the court’s remarks, the CBI sought an extension of the judicial custody of both accused. The defence opposed the request, contending that the investigating agency had presented no fresh grounds for extending the remand. However, the court rejected the objection and extended their judicial custody until July 14. Burglars fled after hearing police siren On the intervening night of June 27 and 28, burglars allegedly entered the residence of retired judge Giribala Singh. According to police, they attempted to steal gold jewellery and a file containing documents related to Giribala Singh and her son, Samarth Singh. However, the suspects abandoned the stolen items and fled after hearing the siren of a police patrol vehicle approaching the area. At the time of the incident, Giribala Singh’s elder son was present at the house. He told police that the intruders entered through the rear portion of the property, preventing the family from noticing the break-in. As the police patrol reached the vicinity, the burglars panicked, left the items behind, and escaped. Police personnel chased the suspects but failed to apprehend them. Investigators later examined CCTV footage from the area, and based on suspicious movements captured on camera, two individuals were taken into custody on Sunday in connection with the attempted burglary.
