Indian women’s cricket team has qualified for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics, alongside Australia, England, and South Africa. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) Executive Board has approved the qualification system for the LA 28. However, Shreyas Iyer-led men’s team have to wait until December to qualify for the major event. The LA28 Olympics will mark cricket’s return to the Games for the first time in 128 years. The sport was last played at the Paris Olympics in 1900, making this one of the most exciting moments for cricket fans across the world. The formats for the event has also been released. India Women qualify for LA 28, men’s team to wait till December Despite India’s early exit from the Women’s T20 World Cup 2026, Harmanpreet Kaur led side have successfully qualified for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games. They secured one of the six available spots for cricket’s much-awaited return to the Olympics through the ICC’s newly announced qualification pathway. Along with India, England, South Africa and Australia have also qualified for the mega tournament. Apart from these four, the USA might seal the fifth spot being the host nation and the sixth spot will be decided after the inaugural ICC Olympics Qualifier in 2027. However, the men’s side have to wait untill December to qualify. 6 teams, 28 matches across two events: LA 28 cricket format revealed The event will include separate men’s and women’s T20 competitions, with six teams in each category. Every team can have up to 15 players, with 90 athlete quota places available for both the men’s and women’s tournaments. In total, 28 matches will be played across the two events. Each qualified nation will be permitted to name a 15-player squad for the Olympic tournament. The six participating teams will be divided into two groups of three, with the group winners advancing to the gold-medal match. Meanwhile, the second-placed teams from each group will face off in the bronze-medal playoff. All cricket matches at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games will be played at the specially built venue in Pomona.
