The entire ground floor and corridor were also waterlogged, making it difficult for students to move around. Around 70 to 80 students live in the hostel. After the rain, roads looked like ponds. The spell of rain began on Saturday night and continued till Sunday morning, sometimes heavy and sometimes drizzling. The old city was most affected. In Ward-73, including Shiv Nagar, many neighborhoods and alleys experienced heavy waterlogging after just half an hour of rain. In Shivaji Gali, Masjid Wali Gali, and surrounding areas, roads appeared like ponds. It became difficult for people to leave their homes, and water reached many houses. Local residents say that claims of drain cleaning and better arrangements are made every year, but the entire system appeared to fail in the very first rain.
