While Shivpuri police were bringing back a runaway couple from Gujarat, the man allegedly killed his girlfriend by slitting her throat at a hotel on the Udaipur Highway in Gujarat’s Gandhinagar district. Police said the woman was resting in his lap when the incident took place. He later allegedly attempted suicide by slitting his own throat with the same knife. The woman died at the scene, while the accused was admitted to the ICU and is in critical condition. Commotion breaks out around 2:30 am The couple, 21-year-old Rajni Dhakad and 25-year-old Santosh Jatav, were being taken back to Shivpuri by a police team. Due to the long journey, the team stopped at a hotel on Wednesday night. According to police, six people were staying in the room, including police personnel, Rajni’s brother and the couple. At around 2:00-2:30 am, sounds of crying and screaming woke everyone up. When they looked towards the couple, they found Rajni lying in Santosh’s lap, covered in blood and struggling for life. Santosh was holding a knife and had also injured his own throat. Police personnel immediately overpowered him, seized the knife and rushed both to Gandhinagar Civil Hospital. Doctors declared Rajni dead, while Santosh was admitted to the ICU. See Pictures Couple had eloped on June 7 Rajni Dhakad and Santosh Jatav, residents of Piparsama village under Shivpuri’s Dehat police station area, had been in a relationship for a long time. They had eloped on June 7. After their families filed a complaint, police registered a missing persons report and began a search using technical surveillance and location tracking. On June 11, the couple was traced to a labourers’ settlement in the Sampar area of Gujarat’s Rajkot district. After recovering them, the police team began the journey back to Shivpuri. Around 10 pm, the team stopped for the night at a hotel on the Udaipur Highway near Gandhinagar, where the incident occurred. Investigation focuses on source of knife Police said Santosh was searched before going to sleep and no sharp object was found on him. However, Rajni was not searched because no female police officer was part of the team. Investigators are now trying to determine how the knife used in the crime reached the accused. Gujarat Police register case Since the incident took place in Gujarat, the case has been registered by Chiloda police station in Gandhinagar district. Shivpuri Additional Superintendent of Police Sanjeev Mule confirmed the incident and said the investigation is now being conducted by Gujarat Police. According to Chiloda police, preliminary findings suggest that Santosh first covered Rajni’s mouth and then slit her throat with a knife before attempting to kill himself. Police personnel intervened after hearing the commotion and prevented further harm. The investigation is underway.
