Indore is hosting an international-level BRICS agricultural conference from June 9 to 13. Agricultural ministers, senior officials and experts from around 20 countries, including BRICS member and partner nations, are taking part in the event being organised under India’s chairmanship. On Tuesday, India and Russia held a bilateral meeting during the first session of the conference. The discussion focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation, expanding agricultural trade and promoting technical collaboration to support sustainable agricultural development. Both sides held detailed discussions on shared priorities such as strengthening food supply chains, improving market access and promoting joint research in climate-resilient agriculture. The talks reflected a common commitment to deepening strategic ties and enhancing cooperation in the agriculture sector. Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said that the BRICS group has today become a very influential platform in the field of global agriculture and food security. Approximately 42% of the world’s agricultural land, 68% of agricultural holdings, and 42% of food production are in BRICS countries. In such a situation, this meeting in Indore will play an important role in shaping global agricultural policies. June 9 to 11: Meetings of the agriculture working group The conference will begin on June 9 with meetings of the Agriculture Working Group. For three days, officials and experts from various countries will discuss issues such as food security, nutrition, agricultural trade, animal husbandry, fisheries, agricultural research, and increasing farmers’ income. The meetings will specifically focus on the challenges faced by small and marginal farmers, agricultural credit, market access, and the use of modern technologies. In this session, the role of women and youth in the agricultural sector, the use of digital technologies, climate-resilient agricultural practices, and sustainable farming models will be discussed. June 13: Main meeting of agriculture ministers The main meeting of the Agriculture Ministers of the BRICS countries will be held. It will discuss strengthening agricultural cooperation among member countries, reducing food loss, tackling the challenges of climate change, and promoting innovation in the agricultural sector. At the end of the meeting, an important document will also be prepared based on a common consensus and suggestions. Focus will be on four main themes During the conference, a special ‘BRICS Garden’ will be developed to convey the message of environmental protection. Representatives from all member countries will plant trees in it. This initiative will symbolize a shared commitment to nature conservation and sustainable development. Foreign guests will witness Indore’s culture Foreign delegates participating in the BRICS conference will also be introduced to the cultural heritage of Indore and Malwa. Under this, they will be taken on a tour of major tourist and historical sites like Rajwada, Chappan Dukan, Sarafa, and Mandu.
